Summer vacation writing prompts and summer timeline

Summer vacation writing prompts

1. Who is a person who you spent a lot of time with this summer? Describe this person.
My parents. My dad is tall and has hair that naturally sticks up so you may mistake him for a porcupine. My dad has small lips but, a big heart which may be why he is a doctor. My dad smiles a lot because he is often happy. My dad is the best dad. If you let my dad, he could talk for hours. My mom is smaller than some people and has short and curly hair. My mom works in the house and helps us do things. She is the best mom you will ever meet.

2. Where did you go this summer that you have never gone before? I went on a surgery bed because I had to have an appendectomy due to appendicitis. It was not bad at all because I had a hospital to go to, fortunately. I had a quick recovery and was discharged from the hospital the same day as the surgery.

3. Where did you spend most of your time this summer? Describe this place.
I spent most of my time at the house playing outside and with my neighbors. My backyard has 2 trampolines, a sport court, and 2 playhouses to play in. This is because we have an open backyard concept with three neighbors so we do not have a fence.

4. What was your favorite activity from this summer? Why did you like it so much?
My favorite part of the summer was going to Waskesiu with my cousins and grandpa. We rented a boat and tube.

5. What was your least favorite part of your summer? Why? Going to my grandma’s funeral because she sadly passed away. I remember the last time I saw her she gave me a big bag of chips and said “here, I don’t need it”. That was the kind of person she was, always thinking of others. In case you were wondering, they were “lays” original potato chips.

6. What was the most important thing you learned this summer? I learned that is important to be there for your family during tougher times.

7. What is something you did this summer that you are proud of? I am proud that I was there for my mom when my grandma passed away because, it is not easy when someone passes away, especially when it is your mom.

8. Describe something that you did this summer that describes water. I went to the lake twice once in Waskesiu with my family, cousins and grandpa. We went to blackstrap with some family friends who have a boat. Our friends influenced us into getting a boat sometime soon.

9. Write about something you did this summer with nature.
I went fishing when we went boating this summer. We also got up really close to some deer at Waskesiu and saw a bear about 50 yards away.

10. Write about something you did to earn money this summer. I did not have very much time to make money but when I did I:
• Pressure washed gunk off rink boards
• Mowed lawns multiple times
• Trimmed grass with a weed whacker
• Killed weeds with round up
11. Write about a special event you attended this summer
I went to a fireworks display where I think the fireworks were based on the Philippines this summer and went to church a few times.

Summer timeline

The summer of 2016 was like a movie. There were highs and lows. I hope you enjoy my memories of it. The first seek of summer vacation my sister had her ninth birthday. We have a tradition in our house of turning a birthday into a birthday week and we treated her like a queen for the week. My mom and dad also had their anniversary and we made supper with steak, lobster and salad.

In the second week, my grandma passed away on July third. I remember the last time I saw her and she gave me a big bag of chips and said “I don’t need it”. That was the kind of person she was, always thinking of others. In case you were wondering, they were Lay’s Original. I went to my grandma’s funeral on the fifth. My dad, my brother, my sister and I helped my mom get through it. I had an appendectomy on July seventh due to appendicitis and my parents took me to the hospital after driving 5 hours. My dad said I was very tough. I even surprised the doctors and nurses because they didn’t think it was appendicitis since I said that it didn’t hurt much.

During the third and fourth weeks, after the appendectomy, I just rested, read and watched TV and movies. It was nice to relax, but I would have rather been healthy. I was supposed to play tennis in the Saskatchewan Summer Games then!

During the fifth week, we went to Edmonton. There we went to Fort Edmonton, which is like living in the 1800’s and 1900’s. It was fun to visit for a short while, but it would be hard work. We also swam, skated on a skating treadmill and went to a very authentic Italian restaurant.

In the sixth week, my brother started driving me around because he got his learners license. My dad jokes that we should call everyone we know to warn them that he is going driving. He really is a very good driver now. I also played with my neighbors a lot that week.

During the seventh week I went with my dad to Notre Dame four times to watch my brother play hockey to try out for Team Sask. It was nice to talk with my dad and I got to see the northern lights. I also thought it was important for my brother to see us there.

In the eighth week I went to a camp at the university where I had my own pig to take care of and got to hold Bobby the rooster.

During the ninth week I went camping at Elk Ridge and went boating at Waskesiu. We went with my grandfather, uncle, aunt and cousins. It was a lot of fun.

In the tenth week I rested, cut our lawn and fixed the rink. My dad said it helped him a lot so that he could spend more time playing with me.

When I first thought about my summer I didn’t think I did much because I was getting over my surgery. When I break it down, I do realize I actually had a pretty busy holiday!

Experiences

A Blindside Hit!  A True Story

Told and experienced by Nicholas Pesenti

Imagine you are 9 years old playing hockey.  You have played on a triple A team for three seasons, with a bright future.  Now imagine all of a sudden you are laying on the ice and it could be the last time you play hockey in a league and you may have a serious injury.  You have already had this injury once.  How would you feel? Would you cry? Would you get mad? I have had to experience this.

My Mom had driven me to Regina two days earlier for a hockey tournament. We had won all our games and we were in the semi-finals.  We were all so pumped!  We were facing Martensville – a much bigger team but definitely not as fast.  We were 2-0 against them and we were confident (over confident if you ask me).  Little did I know what would happen.

We were all doing our usual pre-game routines.  I was stretching and warming up.  My coach gave a pep talk.

We had started the game.  The play between us and Martensville had been pretty much even.  It was 2-2 going into the third period.  I went up the wing and the puck was passed to me by Carter and I deked out their goalie.  I scored and made it 3-2 with less than a period to go.  A few shifts later with little time left, I got back on the ice.  I took the puck away from the Martian and turned around and got hit mid turn by the biggest guy on their team.  I went a few feet airborne and hit the ice head first.  My assistant coach came onto the ice right away.  I got onto the bench and my coach was yelling at the ref because there is no body contact allowed.  Later that night, my team went swimming.  I tried swimming but I got a headache so I went to my hotel room.  I had headaches every day for the next eight weeks.  I had been diagnosed with a concussion! It could have been much worse! But, Concussions can be life changing.

Two years later, I had a third concussion. I was forced to quit hockey and my life’s dream of being the next Bobby Orr.  I went on to be good at tennis and play against 16 year olds at the age of 10.  I got into SAGE and I have supportive parents and have a great teacher and classmates.

Experiences Sci-fi

“NICHOLAS TO THE RESCUE!”

Long ago in an awesome province called Saskatchewan there was an amazing hockey player called Nicholas Pesenti but his friends called him Nic.  Nic had played on a triple A team for three seasons, with a bright future.  The reason he had a bright future was because he was unbelievably fast.  He had a will to improve his shot.  He was called “The Next Great One” a.k.a. “A Mini Wayne Gretzky”.  He was at 94 goals this season and had only played 31 games.  He had an average of 3.03 goals a game.

Nic was exited because the Renegade Outlaws, his team had been driven to Regina for a hockey tournament.  He had been driven to Regina by his Mom and Dad two days earlier for a hockey tournament.  His hockey team won all their games and they were in the semi-finals.  They were all so pumped!  They were facing Martensville also known as the Martians which was a much bigger team but definitely not as fast.  Nic’s team was 2 and 0 against them and were confident (over confident if you ask him).  Little did he know what would happen.

They were all doing their usual pre-game routines, the team was stretching and warming up. Their coach gave a pep talk. They had started the game.  The team was pumped.  The play was pretty much even between the two teams and it was 2-2 going into the third.  Nic went on the ice for his shift.  He went up the wing and he got passed to by Carter then he deked out their goalie.  He scored, it was 3-2 with less than a period to go.  The game was getting rougher because it had gotten more intense.  Then a few shifts later with a little time left Nic got back on the ice. Nic took the puck away from the Martian at center ice and turned around when all of a sudden he got hit blindsided. He went a few feet airborne and hit the ice hard, head first.  Nic was helped onto the bench by his assistant coach.  When he got onto the bench his coach was yelling at the ref because there was supposed to be no body contact allowed in his age group.  Later after the game, he had a headache.

Later that night, his team went swimming. Nic tried, but he got a headache so he went to his hotel room and played on the X-BOX.  While he was playing he was starting to change.  His head was causing an unnatural look which made his head and face change.  His mom yelled “What is going on??”.  He asked “What’s wrong??”.  She explained to him what was going on.   “What? Am I finally getting a brain?”  He said sarcastically.  His mom told him this was serious and they needed to go to the emergency room in the hospital.  They drove to the emergency room in a hospital in Regina.  The doctor was named Dr. Pickle!  The world renowned Dr. Pickle. Dr. Pickle was famous for dealing with strange cases and Nic’s case definitely was strange.  Dr. Pickle diagnosed Nicholas with a concussion, a very strange concussion.  In fact, it was the first of it’s kind.  Dr. Pickle did many test and the results showed that he could now, fly, he was indestructible, had laser eyes, could freeze people, could lift millions of tons, he could grow and shrink, he could change size, could become invisible, could change his weight, could breathe underwater, didn’t have to eat or drink unless wanted to, he could read minds and change minds.  He decided to fight crime and became a billionaire because of rewards he received.  To this day he saves lives.

A blindside hit

Recreated by Natalie, initially made by Nicholas

Imagine you are 9 years old, a hockey player.  You have played on a triple team three times, with a bright future.  Now all of a sudden you are laying on the middle of the ice and you think “is it the last time I play hockey?”  You have already had this injury once and your mom told you to not get it again.

Your mom drove you to Timbuktu two days earlier for a hockey tournament.  You lost all of your games and miraculously made it to the semi finals.  You and your team were pumped! You are facing the Boston Bruins, a much bigger team but definitely not as fast.  You were winning 2-0  and were over confident.  Little did you know what was going to happen.   The next thing you know what was going to happen.  You score and it is 3-2.  Next shift the unexpected happens.  You have the puck and get hit mid-turn and land head first on the ice.  After the doctor talks to your parents, your parents tell you to quit hockey.

My New Years Resolutions

Happy new year! It’s 2016 I want to start things off right by making a new years resolution. These are mine: grow a lot because, I am almost the smallest in my class. Height does not make a huge difference, oh wait it does, but, you need height you just want it.  Some sports need height like in basketball but in some like football you just need muscle and speed.  But, I would like to play football so height does not matter.  Check out my other post to see which is my favorite!
